Ghana's forest zone covers 34% of the country and contains 2,100 plant species and many rare animals, including the forest elephant, the bongo, and the giant forest hog. However more than 90% of Ghana's high forests have been logged since the late 1940's.
The government has initiated a national aforestation programme to expand the nation’s forest, protected areas and improved management of the country's forest.
The volunteer will have the chance to work directly under the Government’s Forestry Institutions or Environmentally Sensitive Non Governmental Organizations in the collection of data, surveying, nursing of seedlings, tree planting exercises, Landscape designing and awareness creation on the importance of the forest to communities.
This Volunteer Programme is a unique opportunity to see and learn about Ghana’s Diverse Forest resources while helping to expand and conserve nature’s resources.
